This electric two-seater zips over the water at 25 MPH. As we've establishedthings that levitate, hover and float are innately cool. After a year of thorough testing, the Slovenian outfit's officially finished their Q2 prototype and is ready to start producing these exhilarating watercrafts, with delivery as soon as March for the one hundred Q2S Electric Limited Edition models that sold out to investors who eagerly climbed aboard early.

You can configure each with various design kits, and they're scheduled to be available for your water-striding pleasure in early Early adopters may see theirs as soon as March By way of comparison, the jump from Q2A to Q2S gets you beefier batteries, a more powerful outboard motor and electric vs. And then the limited edition adds position lights, rear-view mirrors, anti-slip ribbed footrests, a rear platform and pull-out ladder, and naturally an enhanced graphics kit.

Foil is simply another word for the a wing such as the wing on an airplane. Hydrofoil is also used to refer to the boat to which the water wings are attached. A hydrofoil boat has two modes of operation: 1 as a normal boat with a hull that displaces water and 2 with the hull completely out of the water and only the foils submerged.

Hydrofoils let a boat go faster by getting the hull out of the water. When a normal boat moves forward, most of the energy expended goes into moving the water in front of the boat out of the way by pushing the hull through it.

Hydrofoils lift the hull out of the water so that you only have to overcome the drag on the foils instead of all of the drag on the hull.

The foils on a hydrofoil boat are much smaller than the wings foils on an airplane. This is because water is about times as dense as air. The higher density also means that the foils do not have to move anywhere near as fast as a plane before they generate enough lift to push the boat out of the water.

The hydrofoils generate lift only when they are in the water; if they leave the water, the boat will crash down onto the surface of the water and thus submerge the foils until the foils generate enough lift to lift it back out.

Like an airplane, a hydrofoil must be controllable in terms of pitch, roll, and yaw. Unlike an airplane, a hydrofoil must also maintain a consistent depth. Whereas an airplane has a range of about 40, feet in which to maintain its altitude, a hydrofoil is limited to the length of the struts which support the boat above the foils. Most commercial hydrofoils are boats with ladder foils wings stacked one above another with space between them. This configuration is analogous to a biplane.

But the reason for stacking hydrofoils is different than the reason for stacking two wings on an airplane. Ladder foils make the boat easier to control when the water is not flat. If the boat is flying through waves, the wings will generate lift only in the crests; when the boat hits a trough the wings will leave the water and the boat will crash down.

When a stack of ladder foils moves through the waves, chances are that some of the foils will be submerged even if some leave the water unless the waves are really big. There are two particularly persistent problems faced by designers of hydrofoils: cavitation and ventilation. Ventilation occurs when part of a hydrofoil pierces the surface of the water and air gets sucked down the lifting surface of the foil. Since air is much less dense than water, the foil generates much less lift and the boat crashes down.

Ventilation can occur at any air-water interface. Theme by HB-Themes. Features Contact Hydrofoil News. Home Hydrofoil. Hydrofoil Explained. Experience something completely different. On a cat, hydrofoils can reduce side to side rocking while cruising.

Will adding a hydrofoil improve the performance of your boat?

Gelule fer bio

I get asked this question all the time, usually by people who have outboard powered boats with relatively lackluster performance. And I always start my answer by cautioning that every boat is different, and there are no guarantees.

That said…. Adding a hydrofoil to an outboard does provide a performance boost much of the time. There is a performance boost, usually of two or three MPH at cruise, as a side-effect.

In other cases, specifically with powercats, foils will reduce the side to side rocking motion that often accompanies a beam sea. The picture you see here is of my own boat, a 22 Glacier Bay.

Mk tv bangla channel

What about a performance boost? No dice; in this case speed remained identical to foil-free operation. Should you add foils purely to get a speed boost? Probably not. Of course, many people want to give a foil a try but hesitate, because it means drilling holes in the anti-ventilation plate. It took me a solid three hours to figure out how to do a minute job.

Or select country. The Fliteboard was developed by a team of engineers in Australia to be an entirely new form of watersport — a cross between surfing, wakeboarding, and flying. It uses a flat, rectangular lithium-ion battery array inside the board, connected to a removable hydrofoil that extends below the deck. Inside the hydrofoil is an electric motor connected to a three blade propeller.

Flite Schools will offer lessons for both new Fliteboard owners and those who just want to try them out, and there are plans to open schools around the world. The company is taking applications now from people who want to open their own Flite Schools, potentially a hugely lucrative business in holiday destinations, where multiple Fliteboards plugged into quick rechargers would earn significant revenue with little in the way of ongoing overhead costs.

Upon ordering you can choose either the cruiser wing or the fly wing, and you also have a choice between the sport battery or the explore battery.

Boats that use hydrofoil technology are also simply termed hydrofoils. As a hydrofoil craft gains speed, the hydrofoils lift the boat's hull out of the water, decreasing drag and allowing greater speeds.

The hydrofoil usually consists of a wing like structure mounted on struts below the hullor across the keels of a catamaran in a variety of boats see illustration. As a hydrofoil-equipped watercraft increases in speed, the hydrofoil elements below the hull s develop enough lift to raise the hull out of the water, which greatly reduces hull drag.

This provides a corresponding increase in speed and fuel efficiency. Wider adoption of hydrofoils is prevented by the increased complexity of building and maintaining them. Hydrofoils are generally prohibitively more expensive than conventional watercraft above the certain displacement, so most hydrofoil craft are relatively small, and are mainly used as high-speed passenger ferries, where the relatively high passenger fees can offset the high cost of the craft itself.

However, the design is simple enough that there are many human-powered hydrofoil designs. Amateur experimentation and development of the concept is popular.

Since air and water are governed by similar fluid equations —albeit with different levels of viscositydensityand compressibility —the hydrofoil and airfoil both types of foil create lift in identical ways. The foil shape moves smoothly through the water, deflecting the flow downward, which, following the Euler equationsexerts an upward force on the foil. This turning of the water creates higher pressure on the bottom of the foil and reduced pressure on the top. This pressure difference is accompanied by a velocity difference, via Bernoulli's principleso the resulting flow field about the foil has a higher average velocity on one side than the other.

When used as a lifting element on a hydrofoil boat, this upward force lifts the body of the vessel, decreasing drag and increasing speed. The lifting force eventually balances with the weight of the craft, reaching a point where the hydrofoil no longer lifts out of the water but remains in equilibrium. Since wave resistance and other impeding forces such as various types of drag physics on the hull are eliminated as the hull lifts clear, turbulence and drag act increasingly on the much smaller surface area of the hydrofoil, and decreasingly on the hull, creating a marked increase in speed.

Early hydrofoils used V-shaped foils. Hydrofoils of this type are known as "surface-piercing" since portions of the V-shape hydrofoils rise above the water surface when foilborne.

Some modern hydrofoils use fully submerged inverted T-shape foils.
